AWS re:Invent Tips & Tricks Pt. 1

What are your plans for the week following Thanksgiving? Are you planning on sleepily pushing through another week of work as you attempt to stumble out of your hibernation that was caused by the long weekend of food and football? Or will you be in Las Vegas attending the best technology and innovation conference of the year, AWS re:Invent? Whether it’s your first re:Invent, or you’re a seasoned veteran of the annual event (which starts November 27th this year), you better bring you’re A game. re:Invent has something for everyone in business or technology. From executive to developer, you’ll find an opportunity to inform, learn, and discover at re: Invent this year.

The Executive

Once you’ve attended the Executive Summit and subsequent sessions that will lend insights into things from Cost Management to how to take your organization to the next level of innovation, you’ll find numerous opportunities to meet with some of the industry’s best talent. This talent can help you stay competitive in your business vertical while giving the individuals in your organization a head start on the future of technology.

The IT professional

re: Invent sessions will give you the opportunity to see what others have done with the AWS platform, from successful re-hosting of VMware infrastructures to innovating solutions with API Gateway and Lambda. In addition to these sessions you can get yourself over to the Mirage campus location and get certified. If you are really adventurous you can participate in one of the two hack-a-thons to show off your skills and win some money. There will be re:Invent sessions for everyone, but make sure to get to the sessions early. Also be sure to attend a bootcamp, they are a great way to start off the week with an immersive learning session.

Once the work is done, it’s time to play. There are plenty of ways to play at this year’s AWS re: Invent. The week will be full of eating challenges, Lego building, a Harley ride, and a full schedule of fitness fun to be had between sessions, meetings, and keynotes. Wednesday night’s Pub Crawls and Partner Parties are a great way to get to know the people developing those tools you are utilizing to manage your environments. On Thursday night, re: Play will take place. re:Play will be held at the Linq Lot, and you can watch Amazon’s CTO Werner Vogel’s keynote for the announcement of this year’s DJ.

Like I said, bring your A game.

The event has grown every year, but this year re:Invent is taking over the entire Las Vegas strip. As with previous years the event will be centered in the Sands Expo Hall within the Venetian and Palazzo, with additional re:Play activities in the Linq Lot.

As veterans can tell, the logistics have grown and changed. One very important change is the location of the highlight Keynote delivered by Amazon CTO, Werner Vogel at the MGM Grand. Andy Jassy’s Keynote will be in the usual spot in the Sand’s Expo Hall. All of these locations should keep everyone burning the calories they pile up in any of Las Vegas’ great restaurants. However, there will be a shuttle running continuously throughout the event to assure that you can get to any event location in 30 minutes or less.

re:Invent is a great time to test your skills and get certified. This year the classes and testing facilities will be at the Mirage. Aria will host a quad for the innovation seeker featuring breakouts on everything from Serverless and Containers to Alexa skills and Big Data. The MGM Grand will play host to many sessions for the Enterprise minded attendees, while those seeking to hold business meetings will enjoy the Encore’s bookable meeting spaces.

Every day is an opportunity to come meet a superhero that can help you on your Cloud technology journey in the Sands Expo. We here at Relus Cloud look forward to meeting with everyone, discussing their technology and organizational challenges, and finding innovative solutions that build better businesses. Stop by our booth, #1236, to meet our team!
